LinkedIn Outbound Benchmarks

How LinkedIn outbound is actually performing right now β€” real acceptance rates, reply rates, timing, and copy length, aggregated and anonymized across live campaigns. Benchmark your own outreach against what's working.

Sample & method. Based on 8,400 connection requests and 2,511 messages sent through Linkdify between Aug 25 and Sep 25, 2026. Acceptance rates count only requests sent more than 14 days ago (matured invites), so still-pending recent invites don't understate the numbers. Day-of-week timing is bucketed in UTC β€” treat it as a directional nudge, not an hour-by-hour rule. Aggregated, anonymized Linkdify campaign data; no individual account or contact is identified.

Roughly 1 in 4 connection requests turns into a connection, and about 1 in 7 contacted leads writes back. Those are the two rates every tactic below is trying to move.

Connection request: note vs. no note

Noteless requests were accepted far more often β€” and a blank request also keeps LinkedIn's higher weekly invite ceiling, so the no-note approach wins on both acceptance and volume.

No note
48.6%
With a note
8.6%
Default to sending without a note (48.6% vs 8.6% acceptance). Save the personalization for the first message once they connect.

Shorter first messages win β€” to a point

Reply rate by length of the opening message. The sweet spot is a 2–4 sentence opener; past ~400 characters, replies drop off sharply.

Under 200 chars
13.7%
200–399 chars
17.6%
400–599 chars
8.9%
600+ chars
~5%
200–399 characters replies best (17.6%) β€” it out-replies both one-liners and long paragraphs.

How the opener was written

Reply rate split three ways by how the first message was generated.

Static template
8.7%
Full AI-written
12.3%
AI icebreaker (1st line)
21.3%
A one-line AI icebreaker (21.3%) beat a full AI-written message (12.3%), while a static template trailed at 8.7%. A personal first line does more than a fully generated paragraph.

Following up is worth it

Share of all replies by when they arrived. Over a third of replies (37.5%) never happened on the first message β€” they only came after a follow-up.

On the first message
62.5%
After 1 follow-up
18.8%
After 2+ follow-ups
18.8%
Campaigns that stop at one touch are leaving roughly a third of their responses on the table.

Most replies come back fast

When leads reply, they reply quickly. The window that matters is the first day or two, not the first week.

~14 hrs
Median time to reply
56.6%
Replies within 24 hours
83%
Replies within 3 days
Keep the inbox watched and answer same-day. Half of replies land within about 14 hours; more than four in five within three days.

When to send connection requests

Acceptance rate by the day the request was sent (matured invites only; Sunday excluded for low volume).

Thursday
39.8%
Tuesday
32.8%
Wednesday
27.0%
Monday
15.6%
Saturday

Mid-to-late week clearly beats Mondays and weekends. Friday (44.0%) and Thursday (39.8%) lead; Monday (15.6%) and Saturday (11.8%) trail.

The playbook: what's working now

Skip the note

Noteless connection requests are accepted far more often than noted ones.

Always follow up

Over a third of replies only arrive after a follow-up, not the first message.

Reply same day

Half of replies land within about 14 hours; the window that matters is the first day.

Keep openers short

Openers under ~400 characters reply best; longer messages drop off fast.

Send Tue–Fri

Mid-to-late week clearly beats Mondays and weekends for acceptance.

Figures are a monthly snapshot and are refreshed as the dataset grows. Aggregated, anonymized Linkdify campaign data. No individual account or contact is identified. Directional by nature: sample sizes vary by cut and day-of-week timing is bucketed in UTC.
